A Guide to Turkey’s Digital Future

0

As one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, Turkey is fast becoming a major market in the digital economy.

With almost half of its 78 million citizens now online, Turkey is rapidly developing into a technological powerhouse. Not only is its young population (averaging just 28 years of age) becoming increasingly active online, but the country’s government and large corporations have been equally proactive in investing in cutting-edge technologies.

Turkey is now a number of years ahead of its Western European neighbours in a range of ways, particularly when it comes to payments, identity and authentication. It was the first country to introduce contactless cards, mobile Near-Field Communications (NFC) and electronic ID (eID) cards, and, as a result, Turkish companies now have extensive experience of developing and implementing these technologies. In addition to this, the Turkish government has recently converted a number of its processes and services into electronic formats to cater for the increased demand for web services from its increasingly web-literate population.

It is this rapid rate of progress which has prompted us to develop Digital Turkey, an in-depth report into Turkey’s adoption of innovative technologies such as mobile payments and eID, and how their use is likely to increase in the years to come. The report features input from the likes of the Internet Board of Turkey, Bank Asya and TEB, as well as testimonies from Turks from all walks of life about how new technology is changing their lifestyles.

Over the coming few days we will be publishing a series of blog posts looking at some of the innovations which are revolutionising the way Turkey shops, banks and does business. However, if you can’t wait until then, you can browse the full report yourself here to find out more about the digital future of one the world’s most exciting markets.
