Contactless Challenge Day 6 – drinks and drive-thru

Last updated: 20 March 2014

Our challengers aren’t being deterred in their quest to win #GemaltoNFC – not by a lack of NFC terminals outside London or the fact it’s their weekend.

Jon Choo is still heading up the scoreboard with 179 points to Ewan MacLeod’s 126. Thanks to a visit to the cobblers (Timpson) but also managing to buy a round for his friends using contactless, Jon is having better luck finding relevant NFC-enabled venues.

Ewan, on the other hand, is winning points for his determination to seek out NFC venues in and around Ascot. From attempting to buy flowers from his local garden center – where he did see some dancing polar bears though – to achieving success for a social suggestion and buying contactless-ly at McDonald’s drive-thru in Camberley.

One recurring theme we have noticed, however, is that NFC technology is mostly available in fast food outlets, leading to a potentially unhealthy diet. Help us crowdsource some healthy options for our challengers. A few made already via Twitter include contactless gyms or cosmetic surgeons, but we’ll take any activity you can recommend that accepts NFC payment.

In the meantime, here’s the latest scoreboard and our updated Google Map where NFC successes are geographically noted. We have focused only on the successful attempts as, in the words of Ewan, ‘what’s the point of going back? They don’t do contactless!’
