The day before the first day of Mobile World Congress

Last updated: 20 March 2014

That’s right – it has started. Mobile World Congress 2013 has kicked off in style. We’re in a new vast venue in Barcelona, the city is alive with visitors from all over the world, it’s the first conference to offer a truly integrated NFC Experience, and there’s plenty of excitement around the biggest mobile show in the world.

Given the buzz this conference generates, it’s hardly surprising that companies have been building up it for days, weeks and even months. In fact, several major organizations made some key announcements beforehand it had even started, i.e. on Sunday. (Who says only the Oscars happen on a Sunday!)

From Samsung launching its new tablet to Huawei announcing the thinnest handset yet, (which includes an NFC chip), the media and blogosphere has been kept busy before the Fira Gran Via even opened its doors.

And it isn’t just the ‘big’ companies who are dictating the media agenda. If you’ve been following the blogosphere and engaging in relevant social network groups, you would have heard of the Heroes of the Mobile Fringe, where start-ups are battling it out on the ‘fringe of Mobile World Congress’ and pitching their latest mobile-related (or even mobile-enabled) innovation and business ideas.

We’ve also pre-empted several of our big announcements, whether our connected car with 4G connectivity for Audi’s industry-first, embedded LTE infotainment system or our involvement in the NFC Experience alongside CaixaBank, Telefónica and Visa. The mobile world is increasingly about the hands-on experience and that’s what we wish to emphasize at our stand and in all our engagements. Come by to trial mobile financial services or a connected car, or to get your own NFC-enabled business card, POPwings. We’re in Hall 5 Stand 5G120 and look forward to continuing to build on the buzz around Mobile World Congress 2013.
