CTIA 2013: The Way to Wireless

Last updated: 11 April 2014

One of the hottest events in wireless technology takes place this week in the Las Vegas desert.  What’s not to love about The Wireless Association’s CTIA show? The U.S. wireless industry is in healthy shape, as Dr. Robert Roche outlined on the CTIA blog recently, and the great thing about this conference is that it brings together all the pieces of the wireless community: mobile operators, enterprise market users, manufacturers, application developers and retailers to name a few.  If it has to do with wireless, it’s happening at CTIA.

So how is CTIA different in 2013?  The business of wireless is going global with the show focusing on the ‘convergence and virtualization’ shift towards the wireless way, the idea of wireless connectivity everywhere.  Mobile payments continue to dominate as an exciting trend, having the opportunity to revolutionize the way we pay and create a cashless society. Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology is one wireless use already improving our lives through innovations like tracking illegal logging in the Amazon rainforest and monitoring Alzheimer’s and autism patients who may wander from home.  Not to mention, the huge array of possibilities that NFC technology offers.

On the Gemalto front, we will be showcasing our secure service platforms for a connected world, demonstrating everyday and everywhere uses for wireless technology.  Stop by our Booth #5625 to see these technologies and more in action:

NFC Boarding Pass – the first commercial service enabling passengers to use NFC phones to pass through boarding gates.

NFC Access – use your phone to unlock a door, get access to a secure area (think – using your phone instead of a badge to enter your work building), quickly book a meeting room with a swipe of your phone, or log into your computer and transfer stored passwords with a tap of your phone.

NFC Fast Enrolment – sign a legally binding document on a mobile phone.

Gemalto Mobile Wallet – a complete portfolio of mobile wallet applications, NFC applications, wallet server, TSM and payment platform.

Mhealth – To aid in chronic care management, we’ll show you a personal scale and blood pressure monitor that can communicate directly with your physician’s office.

PXS8 Multimode – see our module configure itself from CDMA to GSM, switching between mobile network operators on the spot.

EHS5 vs. EGS5 – watch the latest JAVA technology in action. EHS5, the world’s smallest 3G M2M module, is in the running for CTIA’s Emerging Technology Award.  Learn more and cast your eTech Award vote here!

We will have updates on the Gemalto Telecom blog throughout CTIA to keep you up-to-date on the world of wireless. If you are in Las Vegas, make sure you stop by Booth# 5625 and say hello to the Gemalto team.
