Earlier this year, at Mobile World Congress Barcelona, we showcased a demo of Samsung Gear S2, which proved to be a great success. We received positive feedback from customers and analysts alike, who got the opportunity to experience this ground-breaking innovation.

The first question to follow was: “When is the first commercial roll out?” Ironically, the booth next to us (pictured below) was Orange’s. So you can imagine our willful glances at their booth when this question was posed to us. But there are now no more wishful sighs as our recent press release announced the launch of Samsung Gear S2 in France, thanks to our collective efforts.

This is not an ordinary feat – the GSMA is now committing resources to build a common platform which combines the efforts of mobile network operators, device manufacturers and EUM (eSIM Manufacturers). The tri-party initiative by Orange, Samsung and Gemalto brings the first GSMA-compliant consumer electronic device with eSIM connectivity to the market; a market poised to reach 237.1 million shipments by the year 2020, according to IDC. eSIM and eSIM management are a key component for giving consumers the freedom to connect freely, where and how they want.

Orange’s Essentials2020 project aims at securely connecting every individual to what is essential to them with an exceptional customer experience. Samsung’s Vision2020 campaign, works on innovative technologies that enrich people’s lives. Gemalto, being the world’s leader in digital security, enables its clients to offer trusted digital services for billions of individuals and things. The commercial launch of the Samsung Gear S2 by Orange marks a convergence of the vision of these three companies.

In our post Connecting smart objects, we mentioned the importance of understanding consumer behavior to bring technology to market that adheres to the evolution of consumer behavior. If you are in France, it’s worth checking out this new offer from Orange. For more details on participating stores, see this page here: http://boutique.orange.fr.
