Mobile World Congress this year will once again have a Connected City experience provided by the GSMA. If you get a chance to explore this intelligent city of the future you’ll see how increasingly connected the world is becoming, how connected solutions will become part of everyday life, and how this technology is powering economic growth and business opportunities. Lots of innovations will be on display within this mini smart city (see below for a glimpse of what will be on display), such as education solutions, health, identity and security, as well as many more. But what’s stunning to us is that this is the tip of the iceberg and that the connected cities of the future will feature so much more. The M2M possibilities are seemingly endless.
Take Horst (pictured below) for example. Horst is the M2M-connected office plant and is undoubtedly the future of plant development. Our team in Berlin is experimenting with a Cinterion Concept Board and is adding Arduino-based sensors to it so that they can monitor Horst.
Using a Java application, we can now monitor Horst’s soil humidity, temperature and air humidity levels, among other key variables. The app can even raise an alarm if Horst is in trouble and can also tweet his irrigation status! Horst is smart, and will fit nicely into an increasingly smart world; a world that already has M2M pacemakers and power plants as part of the Internet of Things.
And the innovation revolution doesn’t stop there. At the GSMA Connected City (Hall 3, Stand 3A11 and 3A31) you’ll be able to see an amazing range of features such as the latest ‘Smart Sensing’ sportswear which monitors biometrics through micro technology woven into the shirt fabric of PABA’s basketball players. The mini smart city will also have a ‘Smart Cities Index’ so you can discover how your own city stacks up against the world’s most connected. We think Dubai will top the chart after its World Expo 2020 win.
