Gemalto talks tomorrow’s technology at SXSWi

Last updated: 11 April 2014

This time of year, it’s really great to be based here in Austin, Texas, because we are right in the middle of South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi).  Though SXSWi gets most of the buzz for its music and film lineup, SXSWi is a star on its own, featuring all of the latest and greatest in emerging technology. It is, after all, the place where Twitter and Foursquare made their first steps into the world.

This year we’re even more thrilled, because Gemalto has been chosen as one of the very few to present on our innovations and vision for the future of technology – in the Future15 session, Smart Cities & Connected Objects.

Hugh Forrest, director of the SXSW festival, told Variety last week, “We’re ultimately a conference about creativity. It just happens to be that most of the attendees are speaking the language of technology.”  Indeed, according to Forrest, one of the trends to look for at SXSWi is out-of-the-box, next generation technologies and devices, and this is exactly what Gemalto will be showcasing this year.

Unlock your front door simply by touching it; securely log in to your email on any computer without entering a password; or use any mobile phone with your account without inserting a SIM card.  These are just a selection of things you can do with the new Gemalto technology innovation, eGo.

Connected cityHow does it work? eGo biometric sensors are embedded in any wearable object on the user, and communicate with any eGo compliant object the user touches, making secure service access as seamless as natural movement. eGo is only part of the discussion; we’ll also be talking more broadly about interconnected “Smart Cities” and the exciting ways they will use technology tomorrow.

M2M technology will be the bedrock of modern cities, offering a wealth of societal and environmental possibilities. Architect and design educator Riley Triggs, a member of the SXSW Interactive Festival Advisory Board, revealed that the Smart Cities & Connected Objects session is one he is most excited for at SXSWi, and we’re looking forward to sharing the floor with the great minds in attendance, and learning a lot in the process. What are you most excited to see and hear about at SXSWi?
