Survivors Guide to Money20/20

Last updated: 27 October 2014

Many of us in the industry are familiar with attending conferences, and we know to brace ourselves for the inevitable – long days, lack of sleep, lengthy meetings or a lost voice. With Money20/20 just around the corner (Nov 2-5), we wanted to share a few survival tips ahead of the leading payment event.

  1. Get to know the venue and the show

One of the best tools that helps attendees stay connected with the over 6,500 attendees and show schedule is the Money2020 app that gives an interactive feel to the conference. Money20/20 has become a leading global event that regroups the entire payment ecosystem. With the event located at the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas, knowing your way around comes in handy. Requesting a map from the hotel upon arrival will help you plan out the quickest route to the conference not to mention locate your closest Starbucks for those early mornings.

  1. Be social

Whether you are attending the show or following it from a far, it’s a good idea to have all your social media channels ready to go. A helpful tip is making a note of all industry leaders’ Twitter handles before you the show starts. Following and engaging with them will help you easily and quickly get up to speed on the trends and topics that will be front and center at the conference.

  1. Drop by the Gemalto Lounge

Gemalto will be hosting a lounge located on level 1 during the show and we invite all attendees to stop by for refreshments, networking, and activities. Follow us on Twitter ( @Gemalto_NA) to find out what we have going on at the lounge, trivia and prizes and our  live updates from the show floor. 1. Catch-up on the news

While most of us don’t have time to comb the internet for every piece of breaking news, making sure your Google alerts and Feedly accounts are sending you the latest news saves time and energy.

  1. Travel smart

This is a tip we too often neglect. There are a few essentials for all event-goers that can go a long way in preparing. First, temperatures inside (winter weather) and outside (90F of 32C) differ significantly worth remembering when packing. Secondly, two items I always am happy to have are ChapStick and eye drops. Lastly, consider comfortable footwear for when you make the long treks through the labyrinth of Las Vegas Hotels and conference centers.

  1. Combine waiting with networking

With thousands of visitors each day to Las Vegas, you can expect long lines for cabs and coffee. The waiting game doesn’t have to be a negative; take the opportunity to network and get to know the people around you. I know from experience that the person waiting behind you in line might be the person you have been trying to connect with.
